Four Patriotic Desserts for Independence Day

Four Patriotic Desserts for Independence Day

The Hood Answer Mom, Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D.

It's the 4th of July, when we celebrate our independence with red, white, and blue foods, especially for dessert! Juicy summer berries pair well with Hood Milk for easy and delicious patriotic treats that are lighter, and just sweet enough, for summer dining.

Fresh berries mean summer, and summer means no-fuss food prep.

These Patriotic Parfaits are crowd-pleasing pleasures that are ready in minutes and can be made up to 24 hours ahead of time.  Best of all, you don’t have to turn on the stove!

Thanks to Simply Smart, a Patriotic Parfait supplies more than two-thirds of the calcium in a glass of milk. Swap in raspberries for strawberries, and make it super special with a dollop of Hood Instant Whipped Light Cream

Party-goers won’t want to miss these other Hood favorites, either.

Summer Berry Trifle: Your guests will never guess the secret ingredient in this trifle, which is always a hit with a crowd.  Don’t tell anyone, but it only looks like it takes hours to make!

Angel Food Cake with Berries: No time or motivation to bake? Use prepared Angel Food Cake to assemble this luscious dessert.

Berry Smoothie: Use any berry you like, but be sure to freeze them first so you get a frosty drink bursting with berry flavor. Kids will love making their own berry combinations!
