Calorie Countdown Gets Star Treatment

Calorie Countdown Gets Star Treatment

The Hood Answer Mom, Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D.

Never, ever, not even in my wildest dreams, did I imagine sharing a stage with Miss Patti LaBelle, but that’s exactly what happened last month at the Southern Women’s Show in Savannah, Georgia.

Patti, one of the most talented singers and entertainers of her time, is also one of the most-adored, judging from the crowd that gathered to see her. She wasn’t in Georgia to sing, however. She and I were co-hosting a discussion about Hood Calorie Countdown, a delicious dairy beverage that’s lower in calories and carbohydrates than traditional milk.

Why would Patti LaBelle be on stage talking with me about Calorie Countdown? Because she is a fan.

Several years ago, Patti developed diabetes. With diabetes, you must control calorie and carbohydrate intake to help keep blood glucose levels within a normal range. While anyone can enjoy Calorie Countdown, it makes particular sense for those who don’t want to give up dairy, but desire a beverage that better fits with their eating plan.

Calorie Countdown is a creamy blend of ultra-filtered milk, cream and water that delivers on taste and nutrition. For example, Calorie Countdown 2% Dairy Beverage has 75% less carbohydrates than regular 2% milk (3 grams versus 13 grams), and 42% fewer calories (75 versus 130) in eight ounces. All four kinds of Calorie Countdown – Fat Free, 2% Reduced Fat, Whole and 2% Reduced Fat Chocolate supply as much calcium and vitamin D as traditional milk.

Anyone who knows Patti knows she loves to cook, with an emphasis on “love.” She is the author of several cookbooks, and she often takes her pots and pans on the road to cook for herself and her crew when they’re touring. Over the years, Patti has adjusted her favorite recipes to include less carbohydrates, as well as less saturated fat and sodium, to help support her health. Calorie Countdown has been featured in several of her recipe makeovers.

During our time on stage together, we showed the audience how simple it is to make a Chocolate Intensity Smoothie with Hood Calorie Countdown. Patti prefers the smoothie as a healthier snack or part of a meal, and so do I!
