A CULTURE OF RESPONSIBILITY

At Hood®, we have a long, proud legacy of caring about the future. From our environmental impact to the safety and wellbeing of our employees, we make every effort to ensure we’re contributing to a sustainable future. In 2021, Hood launched a new, long-term sustainability strategy. Guided by an executive steering committee, the strategy will build on Hood’s collaborative culture to optimize our facilities, strengthen responsible sourcing, and reduce our climate impact. We believe that delivering sustainable value to our customers and consumers is not just the right to do, it will also spark long-term business innovation and resilience.

Our Operations

Hood takes seriously the environmental and climate impacts of our operations and supports the U.S. dairy industry goal to be carbon neutral by 2050 or sooner. Since 2011, Hood has disclosed our annual greenhouse gas emissions to CDP and we will continue to enhance our emissions measurement and transparency. We actively seek opportunities and implement measures to reduce resource consumption. Hood’s cross-functional Green Team brings together leaders from all our manufacturing facilities to drive continuous improvement on energy, waste, water, and transportation. Moving forward, our sustainability strategy will set key operational goals and emissions reduction targets to advance a climate-smart business.

Animal Care

Animal Care

We require our suppliers to adopt humane animal care and treatment and provide the educational resources to support those practices. Hood supports and promotes industry efforts to implement animal wellbeing best practices through Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (FARM) Animal Care, a standard certified to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) specifications. Hood also goes beyond industry standards and requests suppliers increase audit frequency and perform proactive audits to further monitor and ensure robust animal care practices and compliance.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

Hood works hard to ensure our products are manufactured with integrity and value for the employees and people who produce our ingredients. Annually, Hood’s manufacturing facilities are audited to meet Sedex SMETA standards for worker wellbeing. We hold our suppliers to standards of environmental conduct and respect for human rights that prohibits slavery and human trafficking.

WATER STEWARDSHIP

A clean, safe water supply is vital to our products, ingredients, and the communities where we operate. Improving efficiencies for water use in our operations is a priority. Looking ahead, Hood is committed to disclosing and reducing water consumption across our operations as part of our new sustainability strategy. We also source milk from farmers who promote land and water stewardship and demonstrate a commitment to protecting our natural resources.
