5 Easy Power Breakfast Ideas

It’s still warm outside, but hints of fall are in the air, and you know what that means: getting back to a routine that involves sending kids off to school every day, or going back to work, or both! 

Returning to a more rigid schedule of work and other activities calls for nutritious foods at every meal that rev up body and brain.  But who wants to spend hours in the kitchen? I know I don’t, especially in the morning.  

Few of us have more than 10 minutes to devote to breakfast Monday through Friday. Smoothies, which are ready in minutes and are portable, make a lot of sense for the first meal of the day.

This Wild Blueberry and Cherry Power Smoothie is packed with great taste and good nutrition.  Research suggests that wild blueberries, found year-round in the frozen foods section, support the brain, which is beneficial for kids as they head back to school, and for the rest of us. 

Cherries, like wild blueberries, lend natural sweetness, as well as fiber, and beneficial plant compounds called phytonutrients.  Hood Milk and Greek yogurt supply bone-building calcium, and protein to keep you fuller for longer. 

Here are some other recipes to kick off the day:

Combine a Banana Raisin Oatmeal Cups, which you can make ahead of time, with a Wild Blueberry and Cherry Power Smoothie or any other Hood smoothie, for a complete meal!  

Prepare a batch of Glazed Raspberry Donuts for weekday breakfasts and snacks.  These are not your typically donuts – they’re  baked,  use whole grain flour, and they contain considerable fiber and protein. Plus, they’re delicious with a glass of milk.

Protein Pancakes are easily frozen, which makes them perfect for busy mornings.   Warm up the pancakes, and top with peanut butter or sunflower seed butter and raisins.  Pair pancakes with a glass of milk. 

We eat breakfast foods for dinner, so it makes sense to eat a popular lunch food for breakfast.  For those who favor a more savory start to the day, sandwiches are an easy option.  How about an Avocado Egg Salad Sandwich on whole grain bread for a change? Give it a try!
