6 Must-Have Holiday Side Dish Recipes

The Hood Answer Mom, Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D.

The holiday season is special to me. It’s the time of year when I really want the food I serve to shine, especially the side dishes. That’s why I use the best-tasting ingredients, including Hood Sour Cream and Hood Cream, to create memorable meals.

You don’t need to spend days in the kitchen or wrack you brain for new and interesting recipes in order to impress your guests.  You may be short on time during the holidays, but no worries.  Topping your favorite appetizers, side dishes, and desserts with a dollop of Hood Sour Cream makes them even more special!

Here are some of my all-time favorite recipes for celebrating the season.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes: Horseradish provides a gentle flavor boost to this otherwise traditional dish that everyone will surely devour.

Sour Cream Cheddar and Chive Biscuits: Forget about store-bought rolls and make these light and flavorful biscuits instead. They take less than 25 minutes to prepare and cook, and you can make them a day in advance.

Green Bean Casserole: Chances are this is not your mother’s green bean casserole, although it is garnished with the traditional canned fried onions!  Cremini mushrooms offer a slightly different take on this beloved holiday favorite.

Sweet Potato Fritters: Have you ever had sweet potatoes in pancake form? Yum! Herbed dipping sauce offers extra flavor.

Au Gratin Vegetable Bake: This casserole is so easy to make, and pairs perfectly with turkey and other types of meat.  Because it’s packed with protein, it’s a satisfying entrée for vegetarians, too.

Corn in Cream with Cherry Tomatoes: Skip the canned cream corn for this simple but elegant dish that’s on the table in 15 minutes. The recipe calls for fresh corn kernels, but you can use high-quality frozen corn instead to make prep even easier.
