3 Delicious Dishes for The Big GameThe Hood Answer Mom, Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D.
Let’s be serious. When it comes to the big game, what’s on the menu is just as important as who is playing on the field. I know it is in my house!
It seems that Americans’ obsession with game day food is second only to our love of football. Yet, what fan wants to be stuck in the kitchen once the action starts? Not me. No-fuss football fare is the name of the game when you can’t bear to miss even one minute of what happens on the field.
Add these three easy and delicious Hood Sour Cream recipes to your big game lineup, or take them with you to a viewing party. You’re sure to score points with your fellow football fans!
Layered Sour Cream Dip. Layered dips are popular party snacks, but they get messy once everyone digs in. This grab-and-go version is served in individual portions that you can make hours ahead of time and refrigerate. Set them out alongside a bowl of sturdy snack chips when you’re ready to eat.
Sweet & Sticky Chicken Wings with Caramelized Onion Dip. Chicken wings are coated with a combination of hot pepper sauce, butter, and a touch of brown sugar, which is balanced by the smooth flavor of an onion dip featuring caramelized onions and sour cream. For a vegetarian dish, swap the chicken wings for raw, steamed or roasted cauliflower florets. Use leftover dip (if there is any!) as a sandwich spread.
Grilled Steak Flatbread. It takes stamina to cheer, and jeer, all throughout the game, and this hearty appetizer is just what you need to keep going! Cut down on game day preparation time by cooking the steak ahead, and using prepared flatbread. Broil the flatbread instead of grilling so you won’t miss any of the game by running outside to cook.
